Project Manager, Solar EPC – Maryland

Based in Maryland and serving customers throughout the Mid-Atlantic & Northeast, the company is a turnkey EPC specializing in C&I solar, especially canopies and racking structures. Well reputed in the industry, the company has completed over 100 commercial projects across MD, NJ, NY, and Washington DC and beyond.

Position Overview:

As Project Manager, you will play a critical role in the company’s ability to deliver projects within budget and on schedule that adhere to the project scope. You will manage multiple projects simultaneously from start to finish including pre-construction planning as well as oversight of site superintendents during project execution.

This is a newly created position within an expanding team due to a robust slate of formally awarded projects and strong pipeline of additional projects. As such, the ideal candidate is experienced, energetic, confident, and ready to hit the ground running.

Job location: Daily office attendance in Pikesville, MD

Reporting to: Director of Project Management

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and optimize the project budgets, schedules, and overall performance.
  • Review daily reports from site superintendents to ensure projects are progressing as expected.
  • Approve invoices and manage milestone payments.
  • Keep the leadership team abreast of any variances in schedule and cost, updating the ultimate project cost forecast throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure the project management database is up-to-date and with accurate information for each project within your scope.
  • Liaise between the site superintendents, subcontractors, and project owner
  • Identify risks during pre-construction and throughout the construction process; collaborate with site superintendents and subcontractors to mitigate risks.
  • Support new project proposals by drafting project timelines and cost estimates during the sales process.
  • Generate the project scope of work and prepare Request for Proposal packages.
  • Coordinate for technical site surveys, preliminary and detailed design, and assess the accuracy of third-party provided information.
  • During pre-construction, receive and review designs from 3rd party consultants and work with procurement to support the development and fulfilment of the bill of materials, providing assessment and recommendations for key equipment such as PV modules, inverters, racking systems, energy storage systems, etc.
  • Review technical documentation such as EPC contracts, equipment specifications, and warranties.
  • As needed, perform site visits and generate documentation of site conditions.
  • Oversee interconnection permitting applications when within the scope of work
  • Oversee the permitting process when within the scope of work
  • Oversee project commissioning and handover to the client’s O&M team.

Requirements:

  • Overall work experience 5-8+ years
  • 3-5+ years of project management experience for carport, canopy, and rooftop solar projects.
  • Experience managing projects in the range of 1-5 MW.
  • Accustomed to managing 10+ projects per year.
  • Project experience in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% for site visits.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Strong communicator, negotiator, and problem solver.
